November has been a whirlwind of activity here at our bed & breakfast A Deer Cottage in Kaukapakapa, Auckland, New Zealand. The seasonal weather has kept us on our toes, but we've been embracing the changes and making the most of this bustling month.
Check out these two fallow deer at our gates.
One significant shift has been the relocation of our new Shiatsu room to A Deer Cottage. We've been busy giving it a makeover, with fresh coats of paint and new carpeting, we continue to sand back, and paint the exterior, and await the arrival of the builder to make some steps and do some minor fix ups. Te Kani and I are excited in getting everything ready for the practice of Shiatsu and Ginger Kidney compress. The anticipation is palpable as we look forward to offering these rejuvenating experiences to our neighbours, our community & our guests.
Meanwhile, the world of YouTube has been a challenging but rewarding learning curve for me. I'm navigating through the platform's changes and gearing up for more exciting content in the New Year. Your support and engagement on our YouTube journey mean the world to us here at A Deer Cottage.
In the midst of these changes, we're eagerly anticipating a trip to Australia to visit our two daughters. The thought of spending quality time with family brings immense joy, and it's a wonderful way to recharge before the Christmas rush. Speaking of rushes, our homestead has been buzzing with new life. Spring has brought adorable ducklings and chicks into our lives, and it seems we have a perpetual cycle of broody chooks and mama ducks. The flourishing garden has been a source of inspiration and tranquility, offering a haven for both guests and ourselves.
However, it's not all sunshine and flowers. I've been grappling with the loss of my dear friend, who took his life earlier this year. Seeking counselling for me has been a crucial step in navigating through this difficult time, and I'm grateful for the support and understanding it provides.
In these challenging moments, I've found solace in taking three deep, slow breaths, resetting, and practicing meditation exercises. These simple yet powerful techniques have become a lifeline for me, offering moments of calm and clarity amid life's complexities. I have also found in the midst of the bustling changes and the ebb and flow of life, I've discovered profound comfort in the simple act of pausing. There's a special solace in taking a break to sit among the enchanting beauty of nature, whether it's within the embrace of our flourishing garden or overlooking the majestic Kaipara Harbour. The symphony of birdsong, the gentle hum of bees, and the overall tranquility that nature offers create a soothing backdrop.

In these moments of stillness, I find a sanctuary that rejuvenates the spirit and grounds me in the present. It's a reminder of the therapeutic power embedded in the natural world, and I encourage everyone to take a moment to appreciate the serenity that surrounds us here at A Deer Cottage.

As we look ahead, the holiday season is fast approaching. I'm eager to welcome my son, his wife, and our granddaughter from Japan for a three-week stay. Preparations for the Christmas festivities, including decorating the house and tree, and wrapping up Luna's presents, are already on my mind, I can't wait to share this with you all in the month of December either via our blog or our YouTube vlog.
