A Deer Cottage November: Chaos, Chooks and Country Charm 🦌❤️🦌

November at A Deer Cottage has been a month of juggling projects, unpredictable spring weather, and the usual chaos that comes with rural life. The rain has been relentless, and on the rare sunny days it’s been a scramble to get outside and tackle the garden and section. Everything is growing beautifully… including the weeds! And do we have weeds......from gorse to twitch!!

I managed to get a few vegetables in, but the victory was short-lived. Our adventurous chooks decided that the watermelon patch was the perfect place for a little afternoon excavation, and promptly dug up my young plants. Between that and our hens constantly going broody, it feels like we’re running a full-time poultry rehabilitation centre. We’ve been cycling the broody girls from the coop into their own little “prison” until they’re off the lay—much to their dramatic disapproval. While we have been trying our hardest to sort out our broody girls.....some slip through.

Early in the month we slipped away to our bach in Bland Bay to install a new washing machine. With old plumbing involved, of course it turned into a long weekend job. We’ll need to head back again soon to sort out the washers properly. While we were there, Te Kani tackled some section maintenance with the weedeater. Even when it becomes a working getaway, it’s still a treat to enjoy the quiet of Bland Bay for a few days.

Meanwhile, back at home, Kelisi the goat—who lives on the neighbouring farm but believes the entire area is her personal kingdom—has been testing boundaries yet again. Despite having a goat friend and acres of land to roam, she still prefers the thrill of a jailbreak. She’s worked her way out of her collar, so later today Te Kani and I will be making her a new one in hopes of slowing down her garden-hopping adventures.

Now, as we edge closer to December, everything is ramping up. Christmas is on the horizon, guests are beginning to book their summer getaways, and time feels as though it’s speeding up. Even with the busy days and muddy boots, November has been full of its own simple joys......However, just before we sign off, we managed to grab us a bargain, with a stunning sun umbrella in my favourite colour at the Black day Sales, here's hoping our guests will enjoy lounging by the pool with our brand spanking new UV sun umbrella, to keep those Summer rays off them!

Just a little pretty A Deer Cottage video 🦌❤️🦌
