Hello dear readers of A Deer Cottage! It's Angela here, and I'm thrilled to share the highlights of this incredibly busy yet enriching August with all of you. This month has been a whirlwind of experiences, from exploring new places to embarking on personal projects and finding ways to heal. Let's dive into the journey!
A Weekend Getaway to Remember
One of the month's most special moments was a weekend escape to Raglan with my beloved sister. As a birthday gift from my thoughtful children, this trip was a heartwarming reminder of the importance of family and the joy of making cherished memories.
Raglan's serene beauty and the time spent with my sister created a rejuvenating experience that I'll hold close to my heart. We enjoyed some lovely meals together, to meandering through the most magical and magnificent native forest along the Pakora River to the top of the Wairēinga Bridal Veil Falls, we then traipsed to the base of these spectacular 55 metre falls. We visited all the little shops, and took a breath, while we enjoyed the Raglan Harbour. Raglan morphed into a surfing Mecca in the 60's , however not only is surfing a big drawcard, Raglan also has an amazing art, music and food culture, and my sister and I just loved our time away, and such an easy two and a half hours drive from A Deer Cottage.
Unveiling the World of Shiatsu and Food Science
Te Kani and I delved into a 3-day Shiatsu and Food Science Retreat right at the comfort of our own cottage. The opportunity to learn and grow together was an invaluable one. We explored the intricacies of Shiatsu, discovering its therapeutic benefits and applying them to our lives. Simultaneously, our culinary horizons expanded through the lens of food science, uncovering the fascinating interplay between ingredients and techniques. It's remarkable how knowledge can be both enlightening and nourishing. Te Kani and I both feel indepted to David Clark, for him to share his knowledge of both Shiatsu and Food Science with us so willingly and passionately was an incredible experience. Lights, Camera, Action! Launching @adeercottage on YouTube
Facing the camera might have been a challenge, but it's a challenge I've gladly embraced. The launch of my very own YouTube channel: @adeercottage, has opened up new avenues for creativity and connection. Sharing insights about cottage living, gardening and crafts, with all things dear to my heart is a step towards cultivating a vibrant online community. Your support means the world to me, and I'm excited to embark on this journey together...keep an eye out for the launch, arriving very soon. Click here to subscribe 🦌❤️🦌
Nurturing the Heart and Soul
Amidst the excitement, I've also been taking time to nurture my heart and soul. The loss of my bestie and creative companion has been a journey of grief and healing. Seeking counselling has been a vital step in navigating this emotional landscape, and I'm reminded of the strength that comes from acknowledging our feelings and seeking support.
As August draws to a close, I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunities this month has brought. From the serenity of Raglan to the excitement of YouTube, each experience has added a layer to the tapestry of life at A Deer Cottage. A Deer Cottage itself offers its own unique form of soul nourishment. The magnificent sunsets that paint the sky with hues of gold and crimson, and the embrace of nature that surrounds the cottage, provide the perfect backdrop for restoring the spirit, be it with a beverage in your hand, or a soak in the outdoor bath, either will relax your soul.
I'm excited to share that we have another enriching experience planned for September! We'll be diving into the world of Shiatsu ginger compress, another learning adventure right here at the cottage.
Stay tuned for the next blog, where I'll be sharing how this experience unfolds, and thank you for joining me on this journey, I look forward to the adventures that September will undoubtedly bring.
