From Cherry Blossoms to Shiatsu: A Busy September at A Deer Cottage.

Greetings from our beautiful Bed & Breakfast - A Deer Cottage!

September has been a season of new beginnings and growth here in the beautiful hills of Kaukapakapa, Auckland in New Zealand. Our cherry trees are in full bloom, painting the landscape with vibrant pinks and whites, while spring has brought with it the arrival of new chickens and ducklings. Though nature's unpredictability reminds us of its power—sadly, we’ve lost a few baby chicks & ducklings—the joy of life flourishing around us still shines through.

Our guests have been enjoying the spring magic, with our lovely guests just departing and leaving behind another 5-star review! Their kind words reaffirm why we love sharing our little slice of paradise with the World.

A Special Memory in the Making: The Pond Area

In our August blog, we promised to update you on the progress of our pond area, and we’re excited to share more about this meaningful project. The pond, originally dug out years ago by my dearest bestie who passed away 18 months ago, has been a heartfelt endeavour of remembrance and beauty. In his honour, we’ve been working to transform this area into something truly special.

This month, we placed the beautifully crafted sign for the pond, made by a mutual friend of my bestie, and we’ve chosen the perfect spot where it will forever stand as a tribute. Alongside this, we’ve added a striking sun face, also made by this talented friend, created from a piece of an old farm baler. Both of these elements bring a personal and creative touch to the pond area, reminding us of our bestie every time we walk by.

As the garden art continues to take shape, we've also installed metal garden bullrush artwork we were given by a much loved neighbour, which Te Kani and I recently restored—each piece a reflection of the wonderful friendships that continue to inspire our work. With some fresh planting added around the pond, it’s coming together beautifully, and we look forward to unveiling this project fully in March 2025.

Shiatsu Retreat

In addition to all the outdoor projects, we hosted another Shiatsu retreat this month at A Deer Cottage. It was an enriching experience for all who attended, as we delved deeper into the world of Shiatsu therapy.

This retreat focused on understanding diagnosis through yin and yang, exploring jitsu and kyo, and mapping out the body's meridians. The hands-on work was especially rewarding, allowing everyone to practice and refine their skills in this holistic healing art.

What’s Next?

As we continue to nurture the grounds and make progress on the pond, we’re also preparing for more retreats and events in the coming months. And for those interested in boosting their marketing knowledge, I’ve also completed another free online marketing course to help with my social media, I really love the help and support with these courses, this latest one with Boostly, which has been both enjoyable and highly beneficial.
