Kia ora and Happy New Year from our little slice of paradise in Kaukapakapa, overlooking the stunning Kaipara Harbour! It’s been a wonderfully busy start to 2025, with a constant flow of guests making the most of summer in Auckland. One highlight was hosting a Groomsman and his party who stayed with us while attending his Wedding at the beautiful Waterfall Farm Wedding Venue. It’s such a treat being part of these special moments, even if just in a small way. If you wish to find out more about Waterfall Farm click here

With the warm weather, many of our guests have been enjoying time relaxing by the pool or soaking in the outdoor bath area. Speaking of the outdoor bath, I had planned to restore its paint this month, but with everything going on (and a few unpredictable weather days), it’s still on my to-do list. Hopefully, February will offer the perfect opportunity to get that done!

We’ve also been treated to some spectacular sunsets recently—the kind that make you stop, take a breath, and feel grateful for this magical spot we call home.

On the personal side, we’re thrilled to have our daughter and grandson visiting from Melbourne for the month. It’s such a joy having them here! Te Kani and I took them for a lovely little picnic, at Shelly Beach less than 45 minutes from A Deer Cottage, a peaceful Kaipara Harbour beach, also Macy our Catahoula loved having a ball throw, and we loved enjoying a bite to eat and enjoy the view.

We even managed to sneak away to our holiday bach in Bland Bay, in the beautiful Bay of Islands, for a couple of days. There’s nothing quite like recharging by the sea, and we’re looking forward to heading back up to Bland Bay, for a few more days before our daughter returns to Australia.

As we step into this new year, I want to wish all of you—our friends, family, and guests—a happy, safe, and joyful 2025. Thank you for being part of our journey and for sharing in the beauty of A Deer Cottage, our special place.
